Are you choosing resistance or resilience?

I don’t know about you, but the end of this school year feels like a different kind of exhausting.

Now instead of those jolting feelings of the “dark days of summer vacation” where we are just finding our rhythm, we have already been home for almost two months (the same amount of time we now have until the next year starts!) and it kind of feels like “now what”??

Unlike most summers where we catch our breath and know what we need to do for the upcoming school year, this summer we will be learning as the days go by of our school’s plans for 20-21.

Instead of feeling unmoored, what would it be like if we felt like we were on solid ground to start, despite the complete unknowns we are facing?

The only word that kept echoing in my brain was building RESILIENCE. Resilience is simply our ability to bounce back from adversity.  I don’t know about you but I definitely feel like I’ve  been trying day after day to bounce back in the midst of this crisis.

Then I thought about the summer and the opportunity we have to really prioritize ourselves, fill our own cups, create moments of self-care, and experiment with what works and what doesn’t while we don’t have the added pressure of students to support.

What I was imagining is all of us working together this summer to build our own resilience reserves so that when our year begins we have a supportive community built and are ready for whatever the year brings.

We would spend this summer caring for ourselves within this supportive community, supporting each other as we build our resilience muscles for the unknowns in our midst and on the horizon.

So I’d like to know if you would be interested in participating in some kind of offering in the month of July to work on building resilience so that we can show up for our students, families, and ourselves during these uncertain and unprecedented times. If you are interested in learning more, please join the “BUILD RESILIENCE THIS SUMMER” Waitlist and you will be the first to know what is going to happen and when.

If you have teachers, nurses, guidance counselors, or administrators in your life who you want to invite to be a part of this shared resilience building experience, please invite them to sign up as well.

Please remember that this is just an idea that I have and am really looking for people who are ready to work together and create a resilience building community.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please add your name to the list by Friday, June 5th.

In the meantime, I would welcome your input of what may be useful to you and your own health and wellbeing as you move into the summer. I will be in touch in the next few weeks, and hopefully we will be able to build our resilience reserves together.
