“We don’t even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.”
~Isabel Allende
🍂Happy Autumnal/Vernal Equinox!🌸
As the season turns, it provides an opportune moment for reflection and recalibration for our school year.
Navigating the Season of Renewal
We’re at the start of the RENEWAL phase in our school season. If you’re intrigued about the rhythms of a school year, dive deeper here.
The beginning of the school year may test our resilience, however, drawing from Allende’s wisdom, our innate strength during these times is always evident.
Amidst the whirlwind of planning, teaching, leading, and supporting, it’s essential to pace ourselves. This pace, although necessary now, is not sustainable throughout the year. Both educators and leaders must recognize and respect the ebbs and flows of the school year. And use it to your well-being advantage!
Strategizing for the Season of Renewal
To ensure that our school communities thrive and are at their best, consider these strategies:
- System Stack –Now that you are in your school routine, set up SYSTEMS to save you time by STACKING TASKS. Start to plan for when you are leaving each day BEFORE the day begins. Even if you decide to stay later right now because of the amount of things to do, plan a realistic time out and then begin to make the time closer and closer to the “real” end of your day.
- Timely Exits – Add a brief TRANSITION activity after you are done with school. Maybe it’s driving a different way home or going for a 10 minute walk somewhere before you go inside. As the school seasons change, you can see if it makes sense to add more time to doing this. But starting small now will be a great way to establish this routine that is sure to have lasting impact on your health and well-being!
- Create a Buffer – Set a clear boundary for your end-of-day time before your day ends. This not only aids in personal well-being but sets a positive precedent for the entire school.
Feeling the weight of responsibilities? Breathe, recalibrate, and adopt these strategies. Together, as a community, we can navigate the challenges ahead.
